Product Review - The Measure Net
Extendable handle ideal for float tubes and pontoon boats
It would seem that every big fish story follows the same formula. The largest trout on earth has just presented itself to our would-be hero in the form of a rise or its barely visible holding position next to a colossal sized boulder. Our hero, the narrator of this most extraordinary tale, quietly and confidently makes the perfect cast. The backcast sneaks expertly between two cattails, the line darts between nasty, clawing tree branches, the leader wraps around this formidable boulder and drops the fly exactly in the current seam five feet in front of the largest trout on earth. As this behemoth fish moves to the surface to take the fly an immense bulge of water precedes its arrival and… Wham! Our hero spends the next half hour racing downstream through thorn bushes and stinging nettles, past angry rattlesnakes and hungry cougars, through trees flush with ticks, and finally lands the world’s largest trout in the midst of a field of poison oak. Unfortunately, our hero has spent so much energy in the throes of dramatic reenactment that the narration dissolves. At this point, our hero has no juice left to sufficiently persuade the audience that the fish that was landed was truly, honestly, if I’m lying may I never catch another fish again- the biggest trout you’ve ever seen!!

Well, that has all changed. No more guestimating the size of a fish based on “the head was at this freckle and the tail went to my elbow”. The Measure Net leaves no doubt as to the size of that fish (for better or worse- we’re all guilty at times of persuading our audience as opposed to describing to our audience). This net features a measuring tape built into the nylon webbing of the net. With zero being the center of the net, simply add the number of inches at the head and at the tail and come up with the total length of that monster trout. Whether to satisfy your own curiosity, record a personal achievement, or have undisputable evidence of your largest fish, the built-in measuring tape provides the perfect answer.

The soft nylon mesh of this net is lightweight and made to withstand those tree branches and high grass that like to chew on nets as you pass through. If you encounter a tree branch that simply won’t quit and tears your net a new one (literally) then simply unzip the net and remove it from the frame. The net can be replaced with a like net of soft nylon or one made of light rubber. This net is fish approved as well, as the tightly woven holes and soft nylon put little stress on the fish in terms of damaging its protective mucous coating or becoming tangled in its gill plates. This can be an unfortunate result with other net designs. A foam grip handle and elastic bungee on bottom make it ideal for attaching to the back of your vest or jacket. The Measure Net comes in both a fixed size handle (25”) as well as a larger, extendable handle (33”-42”) which is perfect for landing big fish from a float tube or pontoon boat.

Don’t pass up the clincher for your next big fish story!
