The Grass Valley chain of lakes on the Justesen Ranch has two cabins available for those who are fishing on the ranch. A two-night minimum stay is required for renting a cabin and you must be fishing on the private lakes. Check-in time for cabins is 5:00 PM and check-out time is 9:00 AM. Fishing is not free with cabin rental, you must still pay the daily rod fee to fish.
Formerly a Granary (Grain storage barn) for the ranch, the Granary was gutted and remodeled in order to provide lodging for guests of the ranch. Though rustic on the outside, walk through the door and you will find that the cabin has a charming and homey interior. The long screen porch is a nice place to relax and barbeque up some steaks after a long day of fishing. We provide a large propane barbeque, cooking utensils, cookware, a full-sized refrigerator, sink, microwave oven, and electric griddle. The Granary does not have a conventional oven or cook top, so we suggest that you bring the fixin's to BBQ and a quick and easy breakfast (like microwave Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, or breakfast burritos).
The sleeping arrangements are dormitory style in this one room cabin. We have four bunks and one futon couch that folds out to become a bed. Bring your own bedding - sleeping bags are best, (sheets are not provided). Bring your own bath towels, there is a shower in the full bath (yes, running water!)
The Granary cabin is steps away from a small lake called the Granary lake. This is a lake that you can fish at the crack of dawn and just before dark, but we will have regular lake assignments for the Granary cabin guests - which will require a drive of 1/2 to 5 miles in your vehicle. The ranch is huge and the lakes are spread out over thousands of acres.
The Davis house is a wonderful lodging option available for those who are paying to fish on our private lakes. If you are not fishing the private lakes, we may be able to rent the cabin in the off-season November-February. The Davis House is outstanding in its field - literally - your only neighbor is the Granary cabin roughly a mile down the dirt road that bisects the Grass Valley chain of private ranch lakes. Set in a true old-fashioned farmyard, the Davis place is surrounded by charming old wooden barns, a windmill, and corrals. Sometimes the whole farmyard picture is complete with a few sheep or horses in the pasture next to the barn.
The interior of the Davis house features a full kitchen complete with stove, cooktop, refrigerator, microwave oven, pots, pans, cooking utensils, plates, silverware, glasses, everything you need (other than food) to prepare your own meals during your stay. The propane BBQ grill is right outside the front door. The one big bedroom has five beds. The couch in the living room will sleep a sixth, if needed. Bedding is not provided in any of our ranch cabins, so please bring a sleeping bag or sheets and your own bath towel. The Davis House has a full bathroom with shower/tub and a couple of sinks. The living room has a woodstove for those chilly Spring and Fall evenings, satellite TV, and the rare and elusive talking deer head. Kick back in the evenings and enjoy the company of your best fishing buddies.
Step outside the door of the Davis House and you are within 1-5 miles of all of the private lakes in the Grass Valley chain. Each day that you fish the private waters you will be assigned to a group of lakes to fish and you may fish them from dawn 'til dusk. Head back to the house for dinner and back to one of your lakes for the last light fishing.
