These hackle pliers grip onto your skinniest feathers like a vise. The rubber on one half of the jaws gives extra grip for wrapping fine hackle. The small size is best for tiny work on size 18, 20, 22, 24, etc. The slightly larger standard size will work still handle small feathers and tiny work, but gives the tyer with slightly fatter digits a little more room to insert the finger into the center of the tool during hackle application.
