Women's Fly Fishing Class
Our "Chicks with Sticks" fly fishing class is a great way to learn the fly fishing basics in a relaxed non-competitive environment. Amy Hazel, is at the helm of the driftboat, taking the class of three ladies on a full day river float through the magnificent Deschutes Canyon.

The class begins in our fly shop with an overview of the type of equipment that we use in fly fishing. Rental waders and boots as well as fly rods and reels will be provided for all students in the class free of charge. If you already have your own equipment, please feel free to bring it with you.

After an overview of the gear, we head on out to the river and climb aboard Amy's very stable and safe 16 foot drift boat. The chicks with sticks will float 8-9 gentle miles of the Deschutes River stopping along the way to learn casting basics, enough fishing knots to be self sufficient, and how to wade in the river safely. Class participants will learn the basics about different fly designs and will learn when to choose one type of fly over another.

We will have a nice mid-day break for a hearty deli-style lunch, during which time we can review and practice our important fishing knots. Knowledge is power - especially when it comes to knots. We will master the knots in order to be independant anglers with no need to ask for assistance from our significant others during the course of a fishing day!

After lunch we will again work on our casting skills and learn how to read water - which is to look at the river and determine the most likely areas where trout will be. Once we understand where trout live and how trout behave, we will then concentrate on understanding their feeding behavior and how to fool them into eating an artificial fly instead of the real thing. The chicks with sticks will wrap up the day with lessons in hooking, playing, landing and releasing fish. As a part of the class tuition, each angler will receive a fly fishing book that comprehensively reviews all of the lessons of the day.

Come join us for some serious fun on the river and a chance to get away from it all!

Class size is limited to 3 anglers per class. Classes fill quickly, so book soon.
