The Deschutes has a fantastic stonefly hatch from the middle of may through the first or second week of June. But stonefly nymphs are quite productive all year round when fished in the right water. Stonefly nymphs, when floating freely in the water, tumble down stream erratically. Thus, we usually fish stonefly nymphs by themselves on some kind of loop knot rather than with a trailing fly to get a more natural presentation.
