Engagement
This fly will romance even the tightest-lipped steelhead into dancing the dance with the angler at the other end of the line. It was created to imitate a gorgeous engagement ring of diamonds, emeralds and platinum - the red tail stands for love. The proposal happened on the banks of the Deschutes just seconds after the then girlfriend landed her very first steelhead. Amy Hazel, her guide, had designed the fly the night before to match the ring that the then girlfriend was about to receive. The then boyfriend got down on bended knee in the shallows and opened his Wheatley clip fly box to reveal the ring. The then girlfriend did not see the ring, as she was still shaking from the steelhead baptism! The bended knee gent pointed the ring out - amongst all of the steelhead flies - and the question was then popped. The guide was, at this time, waiting to hear some joyous noises from the then girlfriend...and when the words "OH, HELL YES!" echoed from the canyon walls, the champagne was lifted from the cooler in the boat and the cork flew!
