The North Umpqua River is steeped in fly fishing tradition and is a world renowned steelhead fishery. Legendary anglers such as Zane Grey, Major Lawerence Mott and Frank Moore religiously fished this pristine river. Known as the graduate school of steelhead angling, the North Umpqua will challenge even the most advanced angler. Fortunately the angelic beauty of the river will leave you satisfied regardless of the number of fish you hooked. With 30 plus miles of fly only water it is easy to find peace and quiet even on the busiest days.

The majority of the fish in the river are wild and surface oriented making the North Umpqua a fanatastic summer dry fly fishery. A two-handed rod and a floating line are all you need. The winter steelhead are all big wild chromers that are known for their ability to run with blistering speed and disappear leaving an angler awe struck with disbelief. A two-handed rod with a skagit line, plenty of T-14 sink-tips and big flies will get the job done.

Although we do not guide the North Umpqua, our staff has extensive knowledge of the river. Several of our guides have spent a considerable amount of time chasing these marvelous fish. Here we have assembled a great fly selection for both summer and winter steelhead fishing. If you are a planning a trip and have anymore questions feel free to give us a call at (541)395-0995.
