The Elk Hair Caddis comes in such a wide range of sizes and colors because caddis adults also come in a wide range of sizes and colors. For this reason, it's a good idea to have a variety on hand and change often if you see a caddis hatch happening and you're not immediately hooking fish. Green and tan colors in sizes 14 and 16 tend to be the standard, but you never know just what might be buzzing around on a particular day. This fly floats well and offers a realistic imitation.
