Bead chain eyes can be used in place of heavier lead dumbbell eyes when you want a lighter fly that doesn't make as big a splash.
The stainless steel eyes are slightly heavier than normal silver-colored bead chain eyes and they won't get corroded when you fish them in saltwater. This makes the stainless steel bead chain eyes popular in many saltwater patterns.
